Including a video in your blog post can be a great way to explain your research, increase engagement and make your post more interesting to the reader. It can also increase the chance of your blog post being shared to the Instagram Account

There are two ways to upload a video to your blog post, depending on the video type.

Option 1: Uploading a link to a video that has already been uploaded elsewhere (e.g. a YouTube video).

After you log in to the Community, you will see a ‘Create’ button in the top right corner. Select ‘Create a post’, then select the ‘+ New Post’ button which will take you to the post creation page.

A view of the top, right-hand corner of the Community, with the 'Create' tab selected and highlighted by a red rectangle. A drop down menu showing options to create a post is displayed, with 'Create a post' highlighted by a red rectangle..

The green '+ New Post' button.

The fields marked with an asterisk (*) must be filled in before the post can be saved (i.e. title and content fields).

Begin to write your blog post as normal, in a less formal and more accessible language than your research paper. When you wish to add the video, select the video icon in the content bar.

The content bar from within the create a post view is shown, with the add video icon highlighted by a red rectangle.

Insert the video link into the source field and click ‘Save’.

This will upload your video to the blog post. You can also embed the video into the post if you have the embed code. You can then continue to write the text of your blog post.

Option 2: Uploading a video straight onto the blog post

In this instance, when you are uploading a video directly instead of uploading a link, you would select the ‘Create’ button in the top right corner then ‘Create a video’ and upload your selected video. Then click the ‘+ New Video’ button which will take you to the video upload page.

A greyed out box with the following text 'Drag and drop your videos to upload them or browse your device MP4, MOV, WMV - Max file size: 1GB'.

Once the video has uploaded (this can take a few minutes depending on the size of the video), the other fields such as Title, Introduction, and Supporting text will appear, allowing you to create the rest of your blog post.

In both instances, ensure that you have filled out all relevant fields on the right-hand side before posting.

The different tabs available on the 'Create a post' page: Poster image, Journal, Channels, Room, Contributors, Article link, and Settings.

Once you have saved your post, you can preview it by selecting ‘Preview’ in the top right-hand corner. Once you are happy with the appearance of your post, you can either publish it immediately by selecting ‘Publish Now’ or schedule it for a later date.

The available actions for users creating a post: Preview, Schedule, Publish Now, and a green Save button. The status of the post (draft) is indicated by an orange dot and the word 'draft' on the left hand side.
